Application Freezes

N/A

I downloaded Free 2D recently.
I like what I see, but the application just freezes every now and then forcing me
to use the Task manager to end the process.
I have not been able to detect any definite pattern or cause (running a particular
command) for the problem.
I am running the application on Dell Dimension C 621 (AMD AthlonX2 processor) 1
GB memory.
OS Windows Vista Home Premium.
Could the problem be due to some file being corrupted during down load.
I did have some problems when I first tried to install but on the second try the
installation appeared to go smoothly.

Prakash,
This could be graphics card related. Go to the advanced settings on the
graphics card and turn hardware acceleration all the way down. Run 2D
Drafting for a while at that setting. See if the crashes or lockups
continue. If they do not, then bump up the acceleration one click at a time
until you start to see a problem again. Then back off one click.
Let me know if this helps the problem,

I tried but the application still freezes.
My PC is DELL DIMENSION C521 i.e. with AMD AthlonX2, 1 GB RAM, OS Wndows Vista Home
Premium, NIVIDIA GeForce 6150LE display adaptor.
There are only three settings affecting clockrate through the NIVIDIA control Panel,
i.e. Performance, Balanced and Quality.
I have tried all the three but to no avail.
And am am only going through the tutorials not any heavy production stuff.

Prakash,
Try this. Right mouse click on your background (window with no applications
running). Click on Properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the
Advanced button in the dialog. Click on the Troubleshoot tab. Turn Hardware
acceleeration all the way down.

I have rechecked the details and find that the existing display driver does not
allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings!! The driver is dated
19-09-2006. I assume the acceleration is set at the optimum point for a wide range
of applications and not at the highest value.

Prakash,
Is the lockup random, or always when you perform a specific task?

The lock up is random.
I have not been able to discern any pattern.
Practically I am saving my work after every step to avoid having to redo it.

Rick,
As I explained in my post of 01 June, my system does not support/permit overclocking,
or changing the rate downwards.
So that particular problem and suggested solution would not be applicable.
The frequent freezing of the application renders painful any purposeful attempt
to learn to use it.
I tried to download the application again but the size of the download (and poor
connectivity at my end) makes it impossible to complete in one go (IE).
Last time I used Firefox and downloaded the application in parts which I feel could
have led to corruption of some file.

Prakash,
I truly believe that your problems with the software locking up is because
of your system, not the software. Have you tried to update the drivers for
the graphics card? This may help.
I don't know if downloading the software in pieces as you describe will
affect installation.

Rick,
I did try updating the driver, but the response is that the loaded driver is the
latest for the hardware.
As I had mentioned earlier the first attempt to install the down loaded file had
failed (aborted automatically).
At the second attempt there was no problem and the installation went through smoothly.
Which is why I had that doubt.
