Block Label

Is there any way we can make the "Block Label" retain its "value" when we copy and
paste the Block. It appears that currently it reverts back to the "default value"
that was set up when the Block Label was first created?
Thanks

Re: Block Label

Shiv,
Without going into too much detail, this is a current limitation of
copy/paste of blocks. Paste checks to see if there if a block of that name
exists in the file and places an occurrence of that block.
Try this to see what is happening.
1. Create two Draft files.
2. In Draft file Draft1 create a circle. Make a block of the circle and name
it "rectangle".
3. In Draft file Draft2 create a rectangle. Make a block of the rectangle
and name it "rectangle".
4. Drag/Move the "rectangle" block over.
5. Go back to Draft1 and make a copy of the block named "rectangle".
6. Go to Draft2 and paste the copied block. You will see a rectangle not a
circle. This is because there is already a block in the file of that name.
Even when you copy/paste within a single file, copy will create a temporary
file that holds the copy geometry. Paste will take the contents of that file
and copy it back into the active document.

Rick B.

Re: Block Label

This could be related. I am creating a new Block Label and I get this message:
Automation Disabled
Your current software license does not allow the creation of Automation Objects.
What does this mean?

Re: Block Label

Mr. Lim,
I have tested creating Block Labels and do not get the error you specified.
Do you get this error every time you try to create a block label?
Can you please provide the steps that you are following to produce the error?
Thanks,
Rick B.

Re: Block Label

HI Rick,
When I followed the procedure for creating Block Labels as described in the second tutorial for Creating Schematic Diagrams. As soon as I completed the procedure a dialog box with the message appears. I was trying to extent one of the Block Libraries.

Re: Block Label

MR. Lim,
I am still at a loss here. I worked through the tutorial and did not see the error. Were you able to complete the steps in the tutorial? Does it seem to be a problem with the commands or with the turorial?
Regards,
Rick B.

Re: Block Label

Dear Ricky,
There was no problem with the tutorial. The message did not appear in the tutorial. I will describe what I did that triggered the message.
1.. I am trying to make use of Block diagrams available in Flanged.dft under //Sample Blocks/Piping,
2.. I am looking for a Ball Valve symbol but it is not there,
3.. I decide to create a new block for it by modifying Valve Globe Flanged 1,
4.. I make a copy of Valve Globe Flanged 1, unblock it an hollow out the circle in the centre,
5.. I then clicked on the Block Label button, the Block Label Properties dialog box is displayed,
6.. In the Name and Value field I entered; Valve Ball Flanged 1,
7.. After I clicked OK the warning message appears,
8.. I acknowledged the warning and the message box closes,
9.. I am able to place the new block label under the new symbol,
10.. I then proceed to create a new block through the Block command,
11.. I see the new Block "Valve Ball Flanged 1" listed.
12.. I am able to use the newly created block like any other block.
I am just curious about the message. What implication does the message have on my use of Block Label?
