When I open a .dft file created in V19 Solid Edge, I can't measure the geometry with the 2D Draft package. It won't allow me to select any geometry. Is this the way the software is suppose to function or is there a fix?
Ken, This is by design. You can open any Draft file created with Solid Edge in Solid Edge 2D Drafting. Everything displays as it does in Solid Edge. But the drawing views are disabled. Solid Edge 2D Drafting is not intended to be used as a drafting tool for drawings created from 3D Solid Edge models. It can be used as a collaboration tool. With this in mind, drawing views are protected information. A draft file could be sent to a supplier or someone else in the organization. The supplier can open the draft file with a free copy of Solid Edge 2D Drafting. The supplier can add comments and mark the file up. He can save the file and send it back to the person it came from. The supplier can also plot the original drawings. The original sender can open the modified file and review the markups. The beauty of this is that it is all the same file. There is no need of translating the file to another format. There is always a possability of loss of data during translation. Rick B.
