Engine Problem

N/A
I have installed ST4 several times but there is a persistent problem when I attempt to start the application. Splash screen appears and then a "Engine Error' box comes up and states, "This Application is not properly registered. You may have to reinstall the application".

Can someone please advise. I'm running windows 7 and had previously run ST3 without any problems.

Thank you.

How much do you know about modifying the registry? When you uninstall, to you go through the proper process to uninstall, or do you just delete the software folder?

Thanks Rick,

From memory I uninstalled ST3 with a 3rd part uninstaller such as Ccleaner or Advanced System Care. Previous installs of ST4 would have been uninstalled the same way and I have ventured into the registry on several occasions and made changes so if I have clear instructions I am happy to do that if need be.

Thanks for your time and interest.

Joe,
First make sure you are not running remotely. Run the software from the machine on which it is installed. Disable the UAC when installing. Install as a Administrator.

Remove the software again. Use the standard remove programs. I have no idea what state the 3rd party stuff will leave your registry.

Go to the Programs folser and remove the 'Solid Edge 2D Drafting' folder. Do this after you uninstall.

Run 'Regedit'.
Be very careful from this point.
Read the entries very carefully. Some have similar names.
If you delete the wrong entry, you could corrupt your system and may have to
do a rebuild.
Click on the + in front of 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER'. The list will expand.
Click on the + in front of 'Software'.
Scroll down and click on the + in front of 'Unigraphics Solutions'.
Under 'Unigraphics Solutions' there is an entry for 'Solid Edge'.
Click on the 'Solid Edge' entry. Make sure that this is all that is
selected.
Press the Delete key on the keyboard.
You will be prompted to confirm this action.
Click on 'Yes'. The 'Solid Edge' entry is removed.
Click on the + in front of 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. The list will expand. This is the one to be really careful with.

Exit out of Registry Editor.
This will reset clean up all important registry stuff related to Solid Edge.

Reinstall the software.
Let me know what happens.

Rick,
Followed your instructions to a "T" but alas still no joy.
Uninstalled using windows uninstaller from the Control Panel
Followed links to Registry and did as advised
Installed as Administrator with UAC "off"
Please advise further

Are you getting the same error as before?
Can you send a screen shot of the error dialog?

Re: Engine Problem

Yes Rick I am getting the same error and I have found that if I now re-install ST3 it will not run and I get the same error box showing as with ST4. ST3 previously ran without a fault.

The error dialog does not show much but here it is.

We'll I'm knackered I've tried everything and still no luck. The real disappointment is that I am now unable to run ST3 so I'm locked out of Solid Edge completely.
It seems that others have had this problem also but I'm yet to find a fix.
Have you had any luck Rick or are you able to add to the problem in any way?
Thanks again for all the help thus far,
Joe

Joe,
You are not doing this remotely are you? You are doing all this work on the local machine. Correct?
