Installing SE 2D Free on Thumb Drive

Can Solid Edge 2D Free be installed on a thumb drive. I need to take the program
to different locations and some of them do not allow me to have administrative access
to load the software.

I would be very interested to know if that can be done. It would be
difficult I think because of the way the license file works. Each install
recognize a unique Ethernet network address. There isn't such an address in
a thumb drive.

Re: Installing SE 2D Free on Thumb Drive

My guess is that it cannot because, like many complex application, many
necessary settings are written to the local machine registry hive and a
multitude of DLL's need to be registered with the OS, and without them the
application would be unable to run.

No, but be my guest and give it a shot! I have been known to be wrong
before.

Re: Installing SE 2D Free on Thumb Drive

Paul,
It depends on what you want to do.
If your intent is to install the software on a thumb drive to make it
portable, then the answer is no. Installation writes registry information in
the installation machine. If you disconnect the thumb drive and plug it into
another machine, this information will not be there.
If you want to take the download executable and put it on a thumb drive,
this is OK. You can install the software on as many machines as needed from
the thumb drive.
