Licence to use in classroom ?

Hi all
do I need special licence or anything to use this software in a basic drawing class ?
My students will be doing very basic stuff for their workshop class , at the moment they are using pencil and paper , I think it's time our section joined the 21st century.

There is nothing special you need to use the software in a classroom
environment.
Feel free to install the software on as many machines as you need. We
encourage classroom usage of the software.
The best way to do this is to download the executable one time, copy it to a
flash drive, and then install it on each machine.

Re: Licence to use in classroom ?

Ok thanks
I'm just concerned it will expire or need a new licence or something in the middle of a semester ?

Re: Licence to use in classroom ?

The license is a timed license. We maintain an update to the license on the
web site. The updated license is still free.
You can ask other users who have been using 2D Drafting for some time about
updating the license.
Around 30 days before the current license expires, the software will start
poping a dialog when you start it up that the license will expire.
This dialog will have a link that points you back to the web site to obtain
the update. The current license will expire in April of 2011.
The reason we do this is to have users return to the web site to check for
newer versions of the software.
Not only do we post updates to the license, we post updates to the software.
We encourage users to update the software, not just the license. This keeps
all users current with what is developed.
Do not be concerned that at some time in the future we will start charging
for the license. This will not happen.
We sell Solid Edge, which is 3D software. We use 2D Drafting to increase
awareness of Solid Edge.
We encourage classroom usage of 2D Drafting because those students will be
aware of Solid Edge when they move into industry.
Solid Edge 2D Drafting is a subset of Solid Edge. What is learned using 2D
Drafting applies to Solid Edge.
I hope this explains the licensing.

Ok thanks
I will start installing.

Re: Licence to use in classroom ?

I've been trying to update my 2d licence, this is the 3rd time, I can't find where you just update. I don't want to remove my old version and install the new one, I lose my preferences and spend hours reading and resetting.
Does anyone know how and where you go to just click a link and everything is all right and done for another year or two?
Thanks, Stefan

Re: Licence to use in classroom ?

Stefan,
Go to the following link:
http://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/en_us/products/velocity/solidedge/free2d/index.shtml
There is a link to the right of this web page for updating your license.
Click on that link.
Fill in the information and click on Submit at the bottom of that web page.
This will take you to the download page. On the download page there is a link to download the license update. This is a zip file. Open the zip file. There is a SELicense.dat file and a text file. The text file will tell you where to put the SELicense.dat file.

Thanks Rick, that worked well, I'm not sure how I missed it.
Thanks.
