Link variable to spreadsheet / import variables from text file ?

Hi all.
I have tried to link a variable to a spreadsheet cell. The spreadsheet has been
created with Calc, the OpenOffice's equivalent for MS Excel.
When I copy the spreadsheet cell and then go to the variable table in SE, the shorcut
menu does not show the "paste link" command (it is greyed).
I saw in the help that I should enable something in the Option dialog, on the "Inter
Part..." tab.
But There is no such tab.
Is linking to a spreadsheet not available on SE 2d free ?
Otherwise, is anyone aware of OpenOffice problems in this matter?

Ultimatetely, I can't seem to find a way to import variables from text files. Is
there a way to do so?

Thank you.
Cheers.

Cedric,
The software that allows you to link to external files is disabled with SE
2D free. You need a copy of Solid Edge to do this.

This function was available in Version 19, has it been disabled in version 20?
I'll be pretty annoyed if it has been disabled between the two versions.

Re: SolidEdge 2D links:
What versions of the software are you using?
I’ve linked a spreadsheet (and macro) to SE2d version 19 very easily.
The way I did this was to:
1. Open the variable table in SE2d.
2. switch to the spreadsheet software (in my case MS Excel in XP)
3. highlight the cell you wish to link
4. press to copy the cell.
5. switch to SE2d.
6. highlight the cell you wish to link the value to, then RIGHT CLICK
7. from the menu, the “Paste Link” should now be shown (no longer greyed out).
8. select “Paste Link”
You might need to save the spreadsheet file first for that to work, but now, as
the spreadsheet changes values, the drawing should update.
V19 does have a few problems with auto updates, I’ve configured “Links” to have
the keyboard shortcut of “
I've not had any success with linking to a Text File though, it seems to need to
be Excel for me.
I do a Goal Seek in Excel, save the results as a spreadsheet and then open the SE2d
software via the following line in the Excel Macro:
Shell "C:\SE2D\Program\Edge.exe " & pstring & verint & fstring & ext, vbMaximizedFocus
where pstring, verint, fstring & ext are all string variables that I define earlier
in the macro.
Sadly, you can't take the automation any further than that with SE2d Free, but if
you were to get SE2d licensed subscription, then you could program SE2d too!

Thanks for the answers.
I am sorry for the delay, but I had not reveived any email notification, so I did
not know anyone had answered!
The problem apparently was with the OpenOffice Calc software.
It all works normally with Excel.
I am using version SE2D v19 and i don't know what Ricky is talking about when he
says this feature is no longer available.
Thank you all.

Re: Link variable to spreadsheet / import variables from text file ?

All,
The point I was trying to make is that the applications interface that can
be used to write external custom programs (Visual Basic) is not available in
the Solid Edge 2D Drafting.
