'New' drawing from File menu problem

N/A
Hi, in my enthusiasm while exploring and learning SE2D I may have clobbered
something affecting what happens when I click 'New' from either the File
menu or from the 'New', 'Open' and 'Help' buttons below the File Tools
Applications Help main menus. I can't see how to create a new drawing from
the File New menu item. Attached is what I see.
I can create a 'New' drawing from the Solid Edge Apprentice Mode splash
screen. Thanks, Rick

Rick,
Look in the 'C:\Program Files\Solid Edge 2D Drafting V20\Template\' folder.
Is there files there names 'Normal.dft' and 'Symbol.dft'? By default this is
where 2D Drafting looks to find the template files. Have you defined a
custom 'User templates' folder in the Tools-Options dialog under the File
Locations tab? If you set a 'User Template' folder there, you must have
draft files in the folder specified to use as your custom templates.

Rick B.

Re: 'New' drawing from File menu problem

Thanks Rick,
I created my own working sheet and background sheets largely with the help
of Jerry Craig's very helpful manual on SE2D. I created a folder in
'C:\Program Files\Solid Edge 2D Drafting V20\Template\' called 'MEC Art' and
also created one called 'Original Normal' where I kept a copy of the
original 'Normal.dft' file before editing anything. In 'MEC Art' I have a
copy of 'Normal.dft' that is my edited working sheet and from which I get my
customised background sheets; I don't have a copy of 'Symbol.dft' in that
folder.
In 'C:\Program Files\Solid Edge 2D Drafting V20\Template\' I can see both
'Normal.dft' and 'Symbol.dft' from Windows Explorer. I'm not sure which tab
they should appear in when I click 'File' 'New' - 'Normal.dft' shows in the
'Normal' tab but is the original Solid Edge 2D working sheet and background
sheets and 'Symbol.dft' appears in the 'General' tab of 'File' 'New'.
If I click 'Create' 'Drawing' from Solid Edge Apprentice Mode screen I get
my customised A2 working sheet by default, and can 'View' 'Background
Sheet's which are my custom A4, A3, A2, and A1 backgrounds.
I have 'Tools' 'Options' 'User Templates' set to 'C:\Program Files\Solid
Edge 2D Drafting V20\Template\MEC Art' .
If I click 'File' 'New' I see nothing in 'MEC Art' tab, but find
'Symbol.dft' in the 'General' tab, and 'Normal.dft' in the 'Normal' tab but
it is the original SE2D working sheet and background sheets.
So I can create a new MEC Art working sheet by clicking 'Drawing' in the
apprentice mode screen, but if I click 'File' 'New' I get a SE2D working
sheet, likewise if I click 'New' from the 'New-Open-Help' tool bar. I would
like to be able to create a MEC Art working sheet from all three different
ways of making a new sheet.
Where have I gone wrong?
Cheers, Rick
