Open & translate question

Hi everyone,

I'm already a SE user.
But a client who I'm working for this moment wants to know if it is possible to open SE draft files made in a Full license in the free 2D SE.
If so can the user make a DWG/DXF from it ? (I think you can...)
But here comes something difficult I believe. Is it possible to not give the user write rights to the files he is opening made on a full license.
Or does the status functionality also work on 2D SE ?

Basically it comes to this the clients buyer sometimes needs to give some additional information to his supplier. But sometimes he also need DWG/DXF files.
Well if he could make themself. It would save a lot of waisted time.

The viewer is no solution because you cannot convert files to dwg/dxf.

Thanks in advance

Dirk,
I'll try to answer all your questions.
Solid Edge 2D Drafting is a subset of Solid Edge.
Draft files are the same for both Solid Edge and Solid Edge 2D Drafting.
When you open a Solid Edge drawing in 2D Drafting, the drawing views are
disabled.
The 2D Drafting user cannot locate the geometry in the drawing views.
In the environment you describe 2D Drafting is great for corroboration.
The 2D Drafting user can open the Solid Edge drafting file.
He cam mark up the draft file (for example add notes) and send it back to
the originator.
The originator can open the modified file make the noted changes and send
the file back to the 2D Drafting user.
The issue here is to ensure bothe the Solid Edge user and the 2D Drafting
user are actually using the same version of software.
If this is not the case, one of the users will not be able to open the files
(newer version).
The 2D Drafting user can export the draft files to DWG/DXF.
Again, 2D Drafting is a subset of Solid Edge.
I am not an expert with document management, but you can set the file
status.

Ricky,

A short question. Can SE2D be installed on my workstation side by side with my SE license ?

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Re: Open & translate question

N/A
Dirk,
No. You cannot have both installed at the same time.
2D Drafting is a subset of Solid Edge.
It is Solid Edge stripped down. Registry entries are shared by both.
