I am using the Solid Edge 2D drafting version ST9. I construct a building layout in 2D model but cannot get it to scale down onto the working sheet. The help menu refers me to a drawing view wizard which i do not seem to have and the answers to thread where a previous user had 2D free ST8 showed the model being selected; new sheet being opened; scale drop down box selected and the 2D model resized. i have not rtried this but the previous person had and said it did not work, whereupon the contributor suggested he/she contact this forum.
I know how to draw an item many metres in either direction in 2D model space
How do i get this to fit on the working sheet ?
does it matter which metric default sheet i use (ISO etc)
how do i amend the background sheet's title block?
these newbies, eh!
actually I wanted to answer over the weekend, but - see another thread - I was not able to do this via my andorid tablet.
Therefore I can give my answer now:
When You are working in the 2D environment only, You should create Your part geometry at the 2D model sheet.
If this is not available then You can activate it under the view tab
Here You will create Your geometry at model scale that means 1:1 in nature dimensions.
After that You go back to the drwaing sheet and use the button "2D model"
This asks You to give the rectangle at the model sheet which should be brought onto zhe paper sheet.
Thank you both for your helpful comments
unfortunately i do not seem to have the 2D model button you both have.
this is my 2D model view
I then clicked on new sheet tab at the bottom and made sheet 2
look at the top ribbon -no 2D
yours seem to have something between the "Arrange " and the Insert section
I do not seem to have this.
am I doing something wrong or has ST9 moved this?
Try typing "2D Model" in the command Finder
In the list of commands, hover over the displayed items in the list and it should then show you where to find it on the tabs.
I have now successfully imported 2D model views onto my working document at a variety of scales -thanks to all for your help.
If there is anyone else who is struggling with 2D drafting ST9 please note;
-beware of the 2D, working and background listings in the top ribbon.
i kept trying to click on these and lost myself a bit.
-start off in 2D model
-when ready to transfer views, click the new sheet tab beneath the drawing
-note now the 2D model button on the top left hand side of the ribbon.
-rectangle select the section to be copied across
(think you have to start at bottom left and drag the rectangle upwards)
-return to the sheet
-place the model AND be ready for it not to show -it may be SO BIG that you can only see a space on your sheet view.
-click on part of (a line of)the imported 2D model to select it and make it change colour
-right mouse click to bring up a menu
-see how it looks on your working sheet -you can always select it and increase/reduce the scale to adjust the size.
hope this helps a fellow newbie.
Rectangle select can be done from anywhere to anywhere, but if your mouse is going from left to right, it will only select items that are completely enclosed inside of your fence. If your mouse is going to from right to left, it will also select everything that merely crosses the fence at any point (regardless of whether or not it's enclosed). Which selection option to use depends on what your situation is.
I have tried exactly that and the picture didnt actually show on the sheet 1. Just a blank box.
Any Ideas what it could be?
If you create geometry on the 2D Model sheet using the Layer "AutoHide", the geometry will disappear when using the 2D Model View to place it on a working sheet.
