Print to scale

I have created a drawing to full scale in the 2-d model space.
I go to sheet1 and do not use a background/block.
I set the sheet properties to 8 1/2 x 11.
I click the 2-d model view, select the area from the model to display on sheet 1
I scale it so it fills the page on the screen, wich measures 8 1/2 x 11
When I print sheet 1 the items print at a smaller, undefined scale.
They do not fill the page, and the scale is not standard.
I can get the scale I want if I use much larger paper than required.
Why can't I just print what I see on the screen?
Please help this is very frustrating. Thank you!!

Re: Print to scale

Mark,
I am going to make some assumptions. It sounds like you turn off the display
of the background sheet on sheet1 and set the sheet size to 8 1/2 X 11. How
large is the geometry that you create in 2D Model. Is the geometry larger
than what will fit on the 8 1/2 X 11 sheet. You create a 2d model view at a
reduced scale on sheet1. When printed, this geometry will be printed at the
scale specified by the 2d model view scale. When you print, are you
selecting All Sheets or Active Sheet as the Print Range? These two options
will print what is on sheet1 at scale. Any geometry drawn on sheet 1 will
print at 1:1 scale. The 2D Model view will still be printed at the scale it
is placed on sheet1. What size paper are you printing to? It should be the
same size as sheet1 size.

Rick B.

Re: Print to scale

Keep in mind that the printer margins will reduce the area available to
print on and therefore if the geometry intrudes into these areas, the print
will autoscale down. For instance, my printer only allows a 10.6x8.2 inch
plotting area on a 11x8.5 sheet of paper, and every printer is slightly
different. You can see what the effective plotting area is by clicking the
Settings button on the SE print dialog. The "Effective plotting area:" will
be shown on the upper right of the Settings form.

Correct!!
How large is the geometry that you create in 2D Model. Is the geometry larger

yes, the size varies but it is always larger. Typical scale to fit piece on 8.5
x 11 1:10
You create a 2d model view at a reduced scale on sheet1. When printed, this geometry
will be printed at the scale specified by the 2d model view scale.
I set the scale to fit the page however it doesn't actually print at that scale.
The issue appears to be under file..print..settings.. the paper length and design
length always have some scale less than 1. I've tried to set it to 1 but it auto
resets to some decimal. So if I draw a rectangle 6" x 8" in 2-d model, go to sheet
one and click 2-d model view and set the scale 1:2 the image shows on the screen
as 3" x 4" (I expect this), however when I print the image it will print 2.#@!#
x 3.%@#$@. Off by the ratio listed in "paper length".

When you print, are you selecting All Sheets or Active Sheet as the Print Range?

BINGO!! I was printing "current view" when I switched to "active sheet" the image
printed as expected!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
