Problem with licence renewal

I have not opened 2d drafting for at least 6 months. Tried to renew licence, but cannot find '\preferences subfolder under SolidEdge VXX software root folder" to un zip the licence file.

Tried unzipping the file into the SolidEdge application, but receive message no licences.

Do I need to reload the software?

Hi there,

Have you tried extracting the file to the desktop, and seeing what is contained within?

Our workshop PC's have ST7 Free 2D, and they show the "Preferences" folder as expected.

Standard installation places the license file in....C:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST7\Preferences > SELicense.dat [copy the file & paste to the above locale....overwrite existing file with the new one]

Thanks for your reply Sean. I have opened the extracted licence file and it contains the following:

"

INCREMENT solidedge2ddrafting selmd 107.0 31-mar-2016 uncounted \
	HOSTID=DEMO ISSUER=SIEMENS SIGN="0B81 94AA 8933 174A 30E2 1977 \

Looks like I need ST7. I

Hi Keith,

That text looks like the content [SELicense.txt] [normally it's a ".dat" extension] of the actual document inside the zipped file.....that is the text that Solid Edge reads, but that actual file [un-opened] is what is needed to be placed in the right system folder.

You don't necessarily need to upgrade to ST7. You can not do this if your PC is running 32bit Windows, not 64bit. [if it is 64bit, then makes total sense to upgrade]

You can just go through the registration form again, and the ST7 license should function in ST6 [but not vice versa] as expected.

EDIT:

 Actually, the easiest way to sort the license location, is use the "License Utility".....leave the extracted file on the desktop, until after you have SE running, the utility will copy it to the system correctly. [don't know why it took me so long to remember this for you...DOH]
