SE2D will no longer start

N/A

SE2D will no longer start. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program but still
get a termination log notice ”Solid Edge must close…” with a corresponding log file
“crashlogf.txt” attached
Since the last working session, I have:
* created a new windows XP profile
* updated the graphics card driver
Any ideas?

FYI
I also installed internet explorer 8. This may be relevent since many of the postings
related to SE2D start-up refer to IE issues

Robert,
The DLL causing the crash is (atioglxx.dll). I assume you have an ATI
graphics card. Do you have 2D Drafting loaded on more than one machine? From
where did you get the driver for the graphics card driver when you updated?

Robert,
A quick test you could try to resolve the crash problem is to go to your
display properties and turn hardware accelleration for your graphich card
all the way down. Then run Solid Edge 2D Drafting. Let me know what it does.

Thanks Ricky, that was the issue. I downloaded the driver from ATI's web sight but
only installed the graphiics driver, not the entire catalyst control center. This
is an older PC and don't want to bog it down by loading un-needed windows services.
Does reducing hardware accell reduce system performance?. Looks like this issue
has to do with directX or direct draw compatability with SE2D. Is there another
fix so i can go back to full hardware accell, maybe ATI control center deals with
the direct draw issue?

Robert,
How much memory does the graphics card have? The higher you move the
acceleration, the more burdon you are putting on the graphics card memory.
You can play with acceleration by bumping it up a little at a time.

Ricky
256 meg. I have bumped hardware accell back up to the point SE2D quits working.
That point is about half way on the scale where direct draw and curser are inhibited.
I forgot to mention that a few days back I had also reduced the M Board system
bios AGP apperature size from 64 to 4 meg thinking a larger setting was consuming
system RAM and was not needed since the graphic card has it's own RAM. That may
not have been a good change? I will increase the apperature and see if hardware
accell can then be increased.
Regards
Bob
