ST3 slow to startup/load

N/A
Has anyone else had trouble with ST3 loading really slowly? It takes three or four minutes on two different PC's that I use. Previous versions (V20, ST2) were not nearly this bad on the same two computers. Is there anything that can be done?

Both machines have 1GB+ of RAM, plenty of room on the HD... not sure of processor speed but the machines are only a few years old.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,
I would suspect that it is memory.
It is suggested in the Readme that you have 2GB memory.
The OS will eat up a good part of that 1GB.
You will also notice that the delay will happen the first time you run the
software.
The first time you run there is some 'disk caching', Microsoft stuff, done.
This is so that the operating system knows where the software components
are.
After that it will load much faster until you rebood and it starts all over.

Re: ST3 slow to startup/load

Thanks Ricky. On my work PC I have 2.2G of RAM and a P4 @ 2.8Ghz. The strange thing is that previous versions did not load so slow. My home PC has just over 1G of RAM so that could use an upgrade and that PC is ridiculously, painfully slow with ST3 but ST2 was fine.

I'm still having this problem, but I should mention that it's not just during start up that it's slow. Everything in ST3 is running slowly, it's to the point that on my home PC I can barely use it... and the previous version ran just fine, that is the frustrating part.
Even with all of my whining, I do appreciate the FREE software and the support on this forum. Thanks Rick!

Do you know how to run performance monitor?
See if your memory is maxed out.
Have you installed other softwares like virus scanners recently?

Re: ST3 slow to startup/load

I don't know how to run performance monitor.

I gave up on the "old" PC.

I bought a new PC and SolidEdge V103 still doesn't run as fast as the older version. The new PC is a dual core Athlon 2 (3.2Ghz), 3G RAM, 640G 7,200RPM SATA HDD. It's not the best but a huge upgrade from what I had - the performance is still disappointing. I have installed three applications on this PC: AVG anti-virus, Firefox and Omniglyph (PCB CAD software); Norton anti-virus keeps trying to install itself (it came with the PC).

Are there any tricks to get this to run faster? I don't think my drawing is that complex.

Thanks,

Tim
