Saving 2D drawings in pdf format

The instructions say that draft drawings (and some other sheets) can be saved in
pdf format, but that option is not available in the program itself. How can this
be done?

Re: Saving 2D drawings in pdf format

Ron,
Save as PDF is disabled in the free version of 2D Drafting. The full version
of Solid Edge will allow save as PDF. The free version and full version use
the same interface except for some things being removed in the free version.
Some help topics are shared by the two. Help does not specify which items
are disabled in the free version.
I understand that it is confusing for the free 2D Drafting users, but it is
difficult to manage the differences in the help topics between the two at
that level of detail.

Rick B.

Rick:
Is there a list of the functions that have been disabled in the free version? Acrobat
can be used to provide the pdf capability but some of the other disabled functions
(AutoCAD format compatibility, for example) may not be so simple.
Is there a user's guide in electronic or print form for the 2D program? Tasks like
setting up the drawing space are not at all intuitive so the lack of such basic
instructions is likely to put off most potential users.
Thanks for your response,
Ron

Re: Saving 2D drawings in pdf format

Ron,
You can save to AutoCAD (DXF and DWG) format. With a draft file open, click
on Save As. This will open the Save As dialog. Change the 'Save as type' at
the bottom of the dialog to one of the file types available (DWG, DXF annd
DGN).
There is a post below 'Free Solid Edge Textbook' that someone has posted. It
has a link to download. I have not looked at it. I don't know if it was
written around the old or new UI.

Rick B.

Hi Ron,
There are a few freeware printer drivers available on the net which enable you to
create pdf-files of anything that can be printed on paper.
You install the driver as you would any physical printer, then you select "print"
from the menu of your program (Solid Edge in this case) and you select the pdf-driver
as output. A proper pdf-file will be created and saved at the location chosen by
you.
