Scale

Just getting started with Solid Edge 2D and need help getting started with setting
a scale for the image. Want to use inches. How do I set scale so the first line
I draw is set and all other lines will be to scale?

Mike,
Wise decision to come to SE2d.
Draw everything 1:1 in "2d model sheet" and then set the scale when it is shown
in a view on the actual drawing sheet.
Access to both model sheet and drawing sheet (and background sheets too) are from
the "Tabs" at the bottom of the drawing area.
If you can only see one tab, go to "View>2D Model Sheet" or "View>Working Sheet"
or "View>Background Sheet".
If I can't talk you out of using Imperial, then I'll tell you that you can control
the units of every document from "File>Properties" "Units Tab" - You can choose
Metres, Centimetres, Millimetres, Inches, Foot, Pole(?), Rod(?), Furlong(?) or Chain(?).
Similar options for angles and areas and volumes I believe.
Have fun, and let us know how you buse the options!

Re: Scale

Mike,
Download the free textbook listed earlier.
Go to the chapter on "Drawing Setup".
Check pages 48-55 for examples.
Pages 61 and 77 show how to set the drawing units.

Re: Scale

Mike,
You said you want to use inches. Are you currently getting metric values by
default?
If this is the case, you specified for metric to be your default file type
on the options page when you installed the software.
To create an inch drawing, Click on File and then New. On the file New
dialog, click on the "More" tab. Click on "Normeng.dft". Click OK.
You should have an inch based file. If this works, let me know and I can
explain how to set you up so that inch files are created by default.

Rick B.

Thanks Jerry for the text download, will save me many hours of lost time. I am just
starting to read the entire text before I get started again with this project. Will
let you know how I am doing next week after the read and my first attempts at images.

Re: Scale

Rick I had no values showing but I jumped in and started before I had a grasp on
all the tool functions. I have the text for 2D and plan to read it thru before I
start again thanks.
