SmartSelect & Rectangular Fence

Is it possible to use the SmartSelect and Rectangular Fence in combination? For example, I want to select all dimensions inside a Rectangular Fence select.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,
Smart select finds all objects displayed with the specified attributes.
You can set the options in the Select Options dialog.
Check 'Dimensions and annotations'.
Uncheck everything else.
Then use fence to select the dimensions and annotations.
You can also set the 'Fence Filter' to mix up locate relative to the fence.
(Inside, Outside, Overlap, etc.)

Re: SmartSelect & Rectangular Fence

Thanks Rick.
I found the select filter after I posted my message. I can't believe I didn't notice it before this. Anyway, thanks again.

Re: SmartSelect & Rectangular Fence

Unfortunately the filter doesn't give you enough control. My situation is that I wanted to select all dimensions within a rectangular fence select and change the font. The filter does not allow you to select dimensions only. You are stuck with dimensions and annotations and then you have to go and deselect all of the annotations so you can get to the dimension properties window to change the font. A suggestion for an improvement to the filter would be to have a check box in the filter for selecting just the dimensions.

Edit: I selected active layer only in the filter and set the "Dimensions" layer active and then it works the way I want. I'd still like to see the option to select dimensions only but it's certainly not a huge problem as is. It just requires more mouse clicks.

Re: SmartSelect & Rectangular Fence

Ed,
Do you always want dimensions with a specifc font and annotations with
another font?
If so, use the Dimension Style Map.
Create as many different dimension styles as you need.
Then in Solid Edge Options - Dimension Style tab.
Map unique styles to the dimensions and annotations that use those styles.
Check the box in the dialog to enable the map.
Now when you place the dimensions and annotations, they will automatically
have the style specified.

Re: SmartSelect & Rectangular Fence

Rick,

I do use Dimension Styles already. The problem with the filter selecting dimensions and annotations is that not all annotations are fonts so you have to deselect the annotations to be able to change the font on the dimension. I would like to see two buttons added to the filter window. One that says "Deselect All" and one that says "Select All". That would cut down on the number of mouse clicks considerably.

Thanks for listening.
