Solid Edge 2d Free isn't free ?

N/A

I thought that Solid Edge 2d is free software (like UGS says), but today I saw that
message: "You have 30 days remaining on your temporary license" - what is going
on?
I registered one more time but with new license is same - 30 days Smiley Sad

Solid Edge 2D Drafting is indeed free. Please read the posting "Solid Edge
2D Drafting (Version 19) License Update". This post will explain the
procedure for updating your free license of V19. Or you may wait a couple of
weeks and download V20 which will have many new features.
I hope your experience with 2D Drafting has been a good one.

Rick B.

Does this mean that if we down;oad now, we can't easily upgrade? or can we upgrade
to version 20 in a few weeks time?
Personally, I love the SE2d Free V19, and can't wait for V20.
Do we know a release date?

Andy,
You have two options as far as updating. You may either extend your V19
license if you are not ready to upgrade to V20. Or you can upgrade to V20
when it is available.
The free2d web site has now been modified to allow existing V19 users to
download an extension for the V19 license file. This will extend V19 to the
end of October 2008. Anyone who now downloads V19 for the first time will
get the extended license.
Also, Solid Edge 2D Drafting V20 will be available soon. We would encourage
everyone to update to V20 to keep up to date with the latest enhancements.
There is a whats new help topic in the software that will explain the V20
enhancements.
Regards,
Rick B.

Rick,
With all due respect, your message is inaccurate and misleading. Before
reading Kris' message, I downloaded V19 again and re-registered. The license
I got is the same as the last I got. Which means, anyone who now downloads
V19 will only get to use the software till September 30, 2007. But I am
looking forward to the V20 to see what is new.
Best regards,

As Ricky has stated, the following web page has 2 options on it.
Either download for a new install, or Renew a license.
If you choose either, you are presented with a license file that is good
till October 2008 (tested both, and both gave me license files good till
Oct. 2008).

Mr. Lim,
The updates to the web sites for the various languages are being worked.
Depending on the language selected, you most likely are correct about the
email containing the same license as before. However, the updates should be
finished within the next couple of days. I appologise if this caused you any
confusion. Please read the post "How to update your V19 license" for
information about updating. It is a simple update.

Re: Solid Edge 2d Free isn't free ?

I want to personally apologize for any logistical errors we have made which
have made folks question our purpose with this software. Any logistical
errors are just that -- mistakes we've made in trying to roll out this
rather massive campaign to bring 2D to everyone -- they in no way indicate
some more devious purpose. So let me restate what we hope to accomplish with
this program...
Clearly the best case scenario for us is for you to try our 2D and like it
and move to our (not free) 3D. However, we recognize that many tasks are
just better done in 2D (diagrams for example) or you don't really have a
need to go to 3D in the future. That is perfectly fine with us. Early on in
the program, I ran into a lady who uses it to design quilts. Is she going to
be a 3D Solid Edge customer? Probably not, but we love to see our software
used productively and if she tells two friends... and one happens to be an
engineer....well all the better for us. Just use the software
productively -- and tell your friends if you like it.
It is not our intent to "cut you off" at some time in the future, nor charge
for the software at some later date. We simply want to keep the software up
to date and stay in touch with you. And in response to your concerns, we
have made both V20 and V19 licenses available. Our intention would be to
continue this same approach in the future -- have the current revision and
one revision back available so that you have flexibility over version
migration.
Thanks for your use of Solid Edge Drafting. We look forward to you making
great products with us.

Hello Ken,
You tested both and got licenses good till October 2008? That is not what I
got from the first option. Did you really test the first option?
