Unable to start program - error generated

I installed the SE 2D drafting package (102.0.0.116) and updated my system to the latest level of XP Pro- SP3. When I start the program it fails with that "Solid Edge has encountered a problem and needs to close ..."
If I look at the event log, it says:

Faulting application edge.exe, version 102.0.0.116, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb.

I didn't see anything on this forum and the Microsoft site doesn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

I have the latest update to .Net Framework 3.5 so I don't think that is the problem unless the latest update broke something.

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

What operating system are you running on?
If you are running on Vista or Win7, it is best to disable the UAC before
installing the software.
I believe that kernel32.dll is a system DLL.

I am running on XP - SP3

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

Kernel32.dll is a system DLL, it is not specific to Solid Edge.
Are you having isues running any other applications?
Does Solid Edge 2D Drafting run at all. When do you get the error?
Does the splash screen display while the software is starting up?
The splash screen is an image that will temporarily display in the center of
the screen when you start solid edge.
What video card do you have?

No problems with other programs.
The problem occurs after the splash screen displays but before anything else. First time after a reboot it takes several seconds to display. Then it is almost immediately after the splash screen.

I have run Solid Edge ST on this system before. I have uninstalled that program as I no longer have access to a license and have downloaded the 2D program.

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

I can't get my software to work much less even fully install and downloaded to begin with.

I've tried downloading Microsoft Framework .NET 3.5, but that won't install either. Perhaps SolidEdge 2D is for operating systems that are on Windows Vista and above?

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

I have the program running on Vista Home Basic but I doubt that it only runs on Vista and above. More than likely is was tested with a level of kernel32.dll that has changed over time. I also had SE 2D V100 running on this system some time ago but removed it at least a year ago. It may be specific to V102 (ST2).

Re: Unable to start program - error generated

Turn the hardware accellertaion on your graphics card all the way down.
Try to run the software again.
If it runs, start bumping the accelleration up until it fails again.
If this fixes the problem, you may need to download the latest drivers for
your graphics card.
