hole with countersink side view?

This is probably a drafting standards question as well as a SE2D question.
Is there a standard way to show a side view of a through hole with a
countersink?
I know how to do this "by hand", but I'm having difficulty doing this in
SE2D. I'm trying to show a hidden side view of a #4-40 (clearance hole) flat
head with 82 degree countersink. Is it not important to draw the countersink
accurately, but instead put the required info in the callout?
I'm attaching the drawing with my not-so-good attempts at countersinks. I
appreciate any input!
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,
I've changed your drawing to show how the drafters do it at my work place. I don't
know if it is standard but I know they know more about drafting then I do. I'll
be curious to see how the experts respond to your question.

Re: hole with countersink side view?

Ed,
This looks correct. Good job.
I'm going to promote 3D on this one. With the full version of Solid Edge,
this type of thing becomes easy. The 3D hole will contain all the attributes
that define the hole. The geometry (circles) in the drawing views created
from the 3D model will obtain the hole attribute information. Look at the
Hole Reference and Smart Depth features in the Dimension Prefix dialog. All
this information is available automatically from the geometry derived from
the 3D Model. Also take a look at Callout. Click on the Hole Callout tab of
the Callout Properties dialog. For each type of hole you can predefine how
the callout will display when placed on that type hole.
Looks like you guys are getting the hang of the software. Have fun.

Rick B.

Re: hole with countersink side view?

Hi Rick
I would like to have a look at the countersink file and have downloaded it, however
I am unable to open it. I am running V19. I get an error telling me it
that it can't be opened as it is not of the correct type. It has the dft extension.
Where do I go from here?
Regards
Geoff

Re: hole with countersink side view?

Geoff,
The draft file is a V20 file. You will have to upgrade your software to V20
to open it. You can upgrade your software by returning to the free2d web
site and registering for V20.
