Help with file descriptions

Dear gurus of VBA script,

I would like to ask your help for a work that I'm trying to perform.

I'm doing an excel file where to put a list of file that are in a selected folder, there should be four columns:

- Filename

- revision number

- File description (I mean the Title of the file)

- Material

Example:

A1="test"

B1="001"

C1="Test of a pipe fitment"

D1="Copper"

I tried to use the GetDetailsOf function, but it cannot read the description as "Revison Number", "Title" and "Material", I think they are properties created by Solid Edge and Excel is not able to search on them.

Any help on perform my task?

Thanks for helping me.

@Tushar has written a great Blog on SE File Properties that should give the info you request.

I worked on this a couple weeks ago. We were not able to read the file description with any outside prorgam, we tried VBA and other libaries for Vb.net.
Only way we found was to use the API, and loop through every file.
I don't have a source, but this seemed to be a known issue.

If the SE API is the missing link,  The SE File Properties API can be used without having Solid Edge installed.

Hi @KeeganC,

do you have some other information on that?

I'm a little skilled with ExcelVB, but I don't know anything about the VB.net and the use of API...

I don't know where to start!

Thanks
