Solid Edge Spy v3 (Teaser)

[ Edited ]

Just wanted you all to know that I am working on a new version of Solid Edge Spy.  I released the current version in 2005 so I'd say it's about time to update it.  Here are a few teaser screenshots for you.

This screenshot is of the application icon in Windows 7.

Here is a screenshot of the GUI as it stands for now.

Not a complete list but here are a few features that will be included in v3:

Object BrowserType Library BrowserCommand Watch

Integrated Solid Edge SDK Help - *Requires ST or greaterCode Generator - I'm working on the ability to dynamically build code that will get to the object that you've navigated to.

I like the path and -wow- the search function, if it will work

I use V2 BETA in 95% since u postet it here; so I can't wait for an update

hope the properties tab is still there, or how have U planned to goto them...

How's that for filtering?

Admittingly, it can only filter on items in the tree that are loaded. I've toyed around with pre-loading the object hierarchy but it's really complicated with the recursive references and such. I know how to deal with it but it's slow and trouble prone.

Regarding the properties tab, I've elected to omit it.  I'm handling everything in my own grid now.  There were annoying side effects to using the standard PropertyGrid.  For instance, I could not easily omit certain properties from being read like MailSession.  Each time that property gets touched, it fires off your default mail client.  If you don't have one setup, it's a real pain.  With my grid, I can easily tell it to omit whatever I like.

I'll be happy with this search,

but imo properties should have the properties icon,

and if U add a toggle for for properties like U have it for methods on top,

would be nice ...

so navigate onto place is easier and then toggle what U want

When you say properties should have a property icon, do you mean properties that are not COM objects? i.e. int, string, double, etc?

I figured what the hell.  I added back the properties bar.  It's dockable and collapsible so you can turn it off or do whatever you want with it.

Jason,

I am still using a COM Browser I have written BEFORE I knew your SE Spy. I also adopted it to some specific functionality of SE (although it can be used for any running COM object).

One of these enhancements is to automatically fill the igQueryAll parameter for the Faces and Edges property of a Body. This is very helpful to explore the topology of any body. OK, you can get to the faces and edges also through the Shells, but for a Wire body, I can't get to the edges !!

So I would like to see this functionality included in your app.

The same is probably true for the Status property of a feature. If we call it with an optional argument, we can get also the description of an error, if the status is igFeatureError. Little things, but very helpful
