Re: Add thread to hole in a part (step file)

That's the message of Weisenberger:

"Since this is a smart hole, you won't be able to add thread to it using the thread command. All you have to do is select the hole and edit back into it. Then go into the hole properties and change the type of hole to a threaded hole."

You can absolutely change the size of an existing hole. That's exactly what you're doing when you're editing back into the hole command and changing it to a threaded hole like in your second video. I'm not entirely sure why you can't change to a G 1/8 size thread though. I would have to look at the part to find out exactly what is going on with that.

I cannot define a 1/8 thread, because the hole is too big.

The hole is 8,8 mm. but it need to be 8,5mm. or smaller.

I cant change the diameter of the hole though (as displayed in the last video).

It's stucked at 8,8 mm.

Any suggestions how to change the orginal diameter of a "smart hole" ?

Can you upload the part file here so that I can take a look at it?

Yes, the file has been attached.

Do you mind record what you do? So I can learn how to do it myself Smiley Wink

Thanks.

It looks like hole 29 is causing some issues and that is why you can't change the size of hole 28. I detached hole 29 and deleted a small face that we left over. Then you can change the size of the hole like you wanted and then simply reattach hole 29.

That worked, but I have similar problems with hole 7 and 8 it seems.

Seems they are the same? Detach will hide both holes and the holes for the 2 threads (G 1/8" x19,5) does not exist. Solid Edge does not recognize the holes as well.

Any suggestions what is causing that error?

I "original" just added a normal "Thread" to those holes, but i removed them because I wanted to do it the "right way" - like previously tought in this topic.

I have attached the latest file.

I have been trying to find a solution, but without much success.

Video and file attached.

It seems one of the files dissapear after i use Detach.

Both holes does not show in the left "menu/list" as well, while all other holes are fine - why is that?

I find this weird and a bit confusing.

I ended up deleting the holes and creating them again, much faster (at least for now) Smiley Happy
