Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

As many of the users before me, I have, in the process of renewing license, wound up with two versions of the Solid Edge - ST and ST2. To save the space I am trying to uninstall the older ST version of the program, and I can not do it. The operating system (Windows 7 64 bit) sees both of the programs. But when, in CONTROL PANEL, I ask to UNINSTALL the Solid Edge 2D Drafting ST the appropriate dialog box comes up, tells me that it configures the program, presumably to uninstall, and then it goes away and the program is still there. When I go through the same process with the newer version of the Solid Edge 2D Drafting ST2, the program does uninstall without any problems.
Please help. I would like to use the latest version of the program without keeping the older version occupying disk space, and I do not relish the idea of wading through the Windows Registry on my own without knowing what to do.
Thank you for your help.

Re: Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

I apologise for the problem with multi-versions of the software.
Installation should check for an existing version and not allow another
version to be installed without uninstalling the existing version.
This is a bug that was introduced late in the development cycle of ST2 and
was not caught by testing.
I am trying to figure out where you are.
When you say that the old version failed to uninstall, does it still show up
in Control Panel as a program that can be uninstalled?
What do you mean by the is stil there? Where are you seeing the program?
It sounds like the newest version uninstalled successfully. Is that correct?

Re: Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

Yes, the old version of the program is still shown in Control Panel. And when I ask to uninstall this version the dialog box guides me through the first step - confirm that I really want to uninstall, then it says: "Preparing to Remove", and then it says: "please wait until Windows configures the Solid Edge 2d ST", and then dialog box disapears and the program is still listed in the Control Panel list of the programs on my computer.
When I wound with a new - ST2 version installed, the new version was installed in the new folder - Solid Edge 2D Drafting ST2. The installation process never gave me any warning about the old program installed on my machine and it never tried to uninstall it, either.
Just to test that I am not doing something wrong, I did uninstall the new version of the Solid Edge - no problems. At that point the computer detected that I have older version still on my machine and I received a message to run MakeVerCurrent.exe which was in the Program subdirectory of the Solid Edge 2D ST folder.
I did run that executable and now when I try to start the program I get the message re. the expired license - exactly where I started..... Except, I do not see the Sold Edge 2D Viewer program listed in the control panel anymore.

Re: Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

To totally clean everything up, go to the "C:\Program Files" folder.
Delete any program folder in that location that has to do with Solid Edge 2D
To totally clean everything up is going to require you to delete keys from
the registry.
This is needed for the software to be installed successfully again.
Do you know how to run the 'Registry Editor'?
This is dangerous, so you have to be extremely careful.
Look at the names carefully.
Do the following using 'Registry Editor'.
For each key simply click on the key specified. It will be highlighted.
Make sure that it is the only key selected.
If it is there delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge
Also, if it is there delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge 2D Drafting
Once you have deleted the folders and removed the keys specified, reinstall
the new version of the software.

Re: Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

Thanks for getting back to me. I just deleted the Solid Edge 2D Drafting ST folder from \Program Files directory. However, in the Registry Editor I do not see any Unigraphics Solutions keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE directory, but in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE directory I have the the following Unigraphics Solutions subdirectories:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER_\SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\Smart View

HKEY_CURRENT_USER_\SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge\Version 100

HKEY_CURRENT_USER_\SOFTWARE\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge\Version 102

Each of the above mentioned directories has some additional subdirectories.

Should I remove these?

Re: Can not uninstall the Solid Edge 2D ST

You can delete the two 'Solid Edge' keys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but it is
not necessary.
Any user customization you have done to the UI is stored in these keys.
After that, reinstall the latest version of the software.
Let me know if you still have problems.
