Cannot get Solid Edge st9 to run on laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite L55-A5284 64-bit with 8 GB RAM and over 600 GB ROM that I cannot get ST9 to run on.  The laptop is like new, recentlyreset, wiped and running good.  It has Windows 10 Pro build 1703 on it.

Everytime I launch it, it goes to start screen fine, but once I launch say Part mode, it will not run and just goes to "not responding". I can see the origin traid and the feature tree, but it wont respond and nothing else really show.

I set the graphics card to performance mode as well.  any ideas?

I'm assuming you already did this, but if not, get the latest Intel graphics driver (Windows 10) for the HD 4000 graphics that you have.

If driver is up to date, then it may be an issue with the SE graphics settings not automatically selecting the appropriate option for your integrated graphics and is still trying to use the highest setting which may be failing (Hardware Driven (Advanced)).

If you can get into the options, use one of the Software Driven options and if it works, then you can try moving to the Hardware Driven and see if it also works.

Alternatively, if you cannot get into the options becuase SE locks up when opening a 3D file, you can change an entry in the AutoConfigure.txt file located in the Solid Edge install's Program folder.

Look for the following line in your case with Intel HD Graphics:

Intel | HD Graphics | * | * | HX | HX | DL,SL

Change it to:

Intel | HD Graphics | * | * | SW | SW |

Then start SE and it should auto select the lowest setting.  If that works, then try changing the file again changing both "SW" entries to the entries below starting with the top one first and if it works, try the second one.  If one fails, return entry to what it was before and just use that:

"SX"

"HW"

@scott_lester   so Backing Store is no longer a setting   but Software driven is..

SE Option, View tab...

@scott_lester I'm assuming you updated the Intel Graphics driver, but if you have not, do that first.

If you are still having issues, you may not be able to open a 3D file and activate the options to make the change Matt recommended.  If that is the case, look for the file:  c:\program files\solid edge st9\program\autoconfigure.txt

Find the following line:

Intel | HD Graphics | * | * | HX | HX | DL,SL

You can then change the two "HX" (Hardware driven advanced) entries to one of the folowing while testing in between.  Start at the top and if that doesn't work, try the next one down.  You will need to close SE when making the change.:

"HW"  (Hardware driven)

"SX"  (Software driven advanced)

"SW"  (Software driven)

Re: Cannot get Solid Edge st9 to run on laptop

I had updated it to the latest version to no avail.

And you are correct, I have not been able to launch the part environement before it goes to "Not responding".  SE launches fine, its just when I go to start a new part is when it messed up.

I will do what you mentioned once I reinstall it (I was trying to reinstall it to see if I could get it to work)
