We have a part file: shaft.par with its file properties:
Now we make the Draft based on this part: shaft.dft and we want this Draft file to have the same properties as the part. We want this because when we save as PDF, autmatically the properties are included in the PDF file which is useful.
Is it possible to automatically copy those Part file porperties into the Draft file?
short answer = NO
Long answer: Assume that you know you can use property text to read the part properties onto the Draft. but i understand this is not coping the props INTO the draft such that save to PDF would show the props via windows explorer.
IIRC there may already be a macro floating around in the community that does what you are looking for. I suggest doing some searches to see what miht come up...
otherwise, there are a few here in the community that might be wilign to assist should you wist to do this via the API
You can do this with property manager from within the draft file.
Just copy and paste the values from part to draft.
If the property doesn't exist in the draft file it will be created.
(Sorry, duplicating Matt's information)
That way is pretty simple and works well when creating the draft the first time.
But when the time comes to modify all the properties of a project, you should not only change them in the Part file but then open every Draft and copy/paste all the properties back again.
I was wondering if using Data Prep or something like that was possible to do this automatically.
Why would you modify all the properties of a project in such a way that you can't do it with Property Manager?
I have done it in the past when copying a whole project, but that was only for changing project name, ID etc - which can be done in bulk on drafts and models with Property Manager.
as @MattJohnson_PG already mentioned there was/is a macro doing exactly this.
I searched for it and found it at incobase.de (again "All the best and RIP to Klaus") where You have this AddIn AcCpyProps
I have downloaded it and - I hope this is OK - put it here as attachment.
Hope this helps
If copying an entire project with Design Manager to use to start another project and you need to change properties... a feature of Design Manager allows you to show your file property columns (could not do this in Revision Manager) so that you can edit them during the copy process.
