Disabling standard templates

We are making an effort to provide customized templates for all of our employees to use. The problem is that we still have employees using the standard templates that come with the SE install. Is there a way of breaking the link to the location of the standard templates?

I made folders for different templates, then point to the folder you wish to use.

Hi @jbutter

the method to accomplish that, is to redefine the default template setting in registry!

As always, registry modifications are on Your own risk, but we have done this for the alst 15 years without any problem

The regsitry setting is not in Current User, but in the Local Machine - Software

Change that value and all users only will see the templates of the new path

PS.: we had to use this method as long as there was no setting for a centralized Reports folder!

Thank you. We have used the Registry to poplulate some settings but couldnt find where the Standard Templates were at in it. Your picture will definitely help.

We have that too. But the Standard Templates are still available to everyone and get used (even after we have instructed everyone not to). So, we are trying to disable them so they are not available anymore. The problem is that they are located on each machine and we need a way to do this without going through each machine. The registry solution offered below will accomplish what we are after.

HI @jbutter

but AFAIK after changing the registry setting for the template path in Local_Machine/Software, there should not be any default template folder visible for any user.

Also there is no further need for any user defined template folder, just the system template will be enough, isn't it?

Isn't this more easily accomplished in SE Settings File Locations?

Hi @bshand

this exactly is the issue requested by @jbutter.

If You define the template path in SE options File Location, You will have the user defined templates PLUS the default SE templates under the installation folder of SE.

But those should not be visible anymore, as I understood the question.

And the only way I know so far is, to change the default template path in registry and do not define any user template path.
