I am trying to detect the collision of two rotating parts defined with a gear constraint but can't get it to work. This was just a test case I tried. It works for other types of constraints but not gear constraints. What I'd like to do is get the rotation to stop when a collision occurs. Any ideas?
I believe that the Gear Relation is more of an animation setting than a physical relationship.
In this example, it looks like you could simply apply 2 separate relationships to tie the rotation(s) and set them equal in via variable table... either floating mates, planar align, parallel, angle...
what if You use the Physical Motion ?
This will detect real physical relations between any surfaces during the simulation
PS.: this is an option in Assembly - Drag Components function
Seems like it should work to me.
It highlights the faces when you use Simulate Motor with detect collisions option.
I also noticed that if you set the axis and then enter an angle like 1deg. then just hold down the return key
it will highlight the faces when they collide.
It will not stop on collision for some reason though.
But this also makes me think it should work with dragging and maybe you should call it in.
Very intersting observation that the collision works if the rotation is bumped in small increments. I have opened up a ticket with GTAC.
