Drawing Number property

At the moment the drawing number on our draft files is referenced from the draft filename using property text %{File Name (no extension)}

We did this so that the drawing number always matches the filename.

A 'Save-As' on the drawing, and the new one always has the correct number.

This is fine in-house as we don't keep previuos versions of the draft file (other than pdf), so we don't need the revision in the file name.

We now need to provide the draft files to outside parties, so we need the revision in the filename - this messes up our system.

I am looking at modifying a macro (that we currently use to create pdf's, excel, dxf etc for issueing) to convert the property text then do a Save-As to the new filename, but am also looking at other options

I was wondering how other people handle the drawing number - do you do it manually, from the part/assembly property or some other cunning way ?

Any reason not to use the "revision number" property and reference that on the drawing?
