Can't seem to place a driving dimension in assembly, is there a way?

Luke,

Is that really the way you want to drive this assembly?
Would you not want to position to the holes instead, then mod a part to get the size needed??

That's a good point, what I was hoping to do was position the outside dimension, because it's critical, then transfer geometry over to the left brackets to create hole features... If that makes sense.
