ER Edges of part used to stack dimension

Wouldn’t it be nice if the edges of a part could be used to stack the dimension.

See attached video

I have put a "hidden" dimension on the edge in order to show this desired behaviour in a drawing.

I would love such a function.
If you open an ER please provide it so I could add my vote.

I'm missing what the problem behavior is and what the desired behavior is.

Hi @Jan_Bos

maybe the function "Align Dimensions" 20161207_2033.PNG can help You a little.

It is not exactly what You were asking for but at least with ST9 You can define a certain distance from edge of geometry to be away together with the standard stack distance from dim to dim

Hi Bruce,

As I understand it....Jan would like to get the "inferred stack" alignment indicator to appear for the 'second" [alternate placement] dimension, not just the ones stacked on the base dim. Sort of like how ordinate dims continue the previous dim placement setting.

Re: ER Edges of part used to stack dimension

Bruce,

There is no problem, it's an ER.

Look at the placing of the 43 dimension. I hoover over the edge and there is no dotted line appearing for stacking this dimension at 10mm from the edge..

By placing the other two dimensions I hoover over the edge and this dotted line appeas and I can stack the dimension. (I have hidden a dimension on the edge, just for the purpose of this video)

This would be nice to have in ST11, stacking dimensions will start on 10mm (Iso) or 18, 24, 30, 38, etc.

Kind Regards,
