Edit part in assembly, but not the original

Hi,

I got a part in an assembly.

I need to make a cut in the part, but I do not want to edit the original part.

Is it possible to make a cut in a part, without changing the original part?

I do not want copies. The people in the workshop will change the part without a draft.

Hard to explain, hope you guys understand anyway Smiley Happy

Yes you can. Solid Edge calls this assembly features. In the assembly environment, there is a cut tool that will perform a cut on the part as you want. Just make sure you have the settings set that the cut only applies to the assembly and doesn't affect the underlying part (which you can optionally do).

I get 3 options when I click the "Cut" tool in the Feature tab.

- Create assembly feature

- Create assembly driven part feature

- Create part feature

Is it the first one? The rest modify the part?

Yea you're absolutly right. The first one is the one that doesnt affect the part.

  • Create assembly feature
    • The feature only appears in the assembly

  • Create assembly driven part feature
    • The feature appears in the part and is linked to the assembly

  • Create part feature
    • The feature appears in the part and is not linked to the assembly
