Error while adding a dimension

Experimenter
Experimenter

Hi,

I just installed Solid Edge ST5 student edition.
Every time I use Smart Dimension an error pops (print screen attached). No matter what I choose it keeps on popping until I choose abort and then it closes the program.
I tried to re-install SE but it didn't help.

If it matters, I have Windows 7 professional 64-bit.

I could really use some help!

Ilya Genkin.

Where did you install SE? I see a reference to Z: in the error... It needs to be installed on a local drive. It also appears to be a graphics related issue. What graphics card/driver are you using?

I have installed it on a local drive. Specifically C:\Program files (x86)\solid edge ST5 etc...
I don't know what drive Z he mentions. I don't have a drive Z.

I have Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

Go into your solid edge options with a part file open and set the graphics to the Backing Store option. You may have to uncheck the automatic option.

It worked!
So far it places dimensions without aborting SE.
However it runs more slowly now.

Could you explain me what this option does? What does it mean to use the backing store option?

Backing Store basically takes some of the advanced 3D functions away from the graphics card and replicates them via software rendering on the CPU. It is used when running an unsupported graphics card and/or old drivers that produce bad results with Solid Edge.
