I have read a few tutorials, and searched but I cant find an alternative to my problem:

Say I have a variable called X already in the variable table, and X=10.

When I insert a new dimension, and say I want this new dimension's formula to be X. Then I have to press enter for the current value. Then select the select tool, then right click on the dimension, then click edit formula, then select the formula bar, enter in the new value, then re-select the dimension tool and continue placing dimensions.

Surely there is a nice and fast way of setting dimension formula's as you insert the dimensions?

Like when you insert a dimension you can type in the box a number, but you cant insert a formula, why?

- creating the geometry

- constraining it/placing relationship handles

- placing all dimensions i need (w/o formulas)

- creating variables in the variable table

- editing the dimensions/entering the formulas

That's quite fast, and u dont have to switch too much between different windows/commands

You do not have to make each peice of geometry exactly the desired size as

you place it.

For anyone coming from ACAD, this is a difficult thing to train yourself to

do.

It is much easer to draw the basic shape, then place dimensions and drive

the geometry into what is desired.

If you want a rectangle of a specific size. Quickly draw a rectangle of

arbitrary size.

Place the two dimensions for the length and height of the rectangle.

Edit the dimensions to push the rectangle into the correct shape.

If you need to change the shape, change the dimensions, not the geometry.

If you want a specific corner of the rectangle to be fixed and the rectangle

to grow from that corner,

place a lock constraint at that corner. It will mot move.

Just remember that dimensions are variables in the variable table.

You can also set the value of a dimension as a formula of another driving

dimension.

This dimension = that dimension * 2

As far as getting to the formula directly from the dimension.

Just double click on the dimension. It will open the formula quick bar for

that dimension.

Thank you I will try follow that order.

Sometimes it gets a little complicated and I fear I will forget to constrain certain dimension if I dont do it there and then.
