I'm trying to cleanup a project with the find orphans macro from Barry Shillingfort and I believe I'm using a
edited version from Klaus Dahlenburg but I could be wrong about that.
But it does not work anymore like it should be. Does someone have a revised or newer version that still works under ST6 and is willing to share this on this forum.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I tried to google "find orphans solid edge macro Barry Shillingford" but could not find the source.
It isn't there in the custom folder.
Do you know the whereabouts for this program; perhaps I can tweak it to make it work for you.
Sorry for this, my mistake !
It's not in the custom folder but it should be anyway, if you ask me.
You can find and download it on the site from Klaus Dahlenburg.
Here's the link
Tushar it would be wonderfull if you could make it work again in ST6 or later version.
Anyway, where do you get all this energy.
Thank you for the link.
I was able to download and extract the file.
I run the program and it worked with ST 8. I am also testing it with ST9.
Below are the screenshots and also attached with this message is the batch file it claims to create for moving the orphans.
What problem are you facing with the program in ST 6 ?
1. Doesn't the program run ?
2. Does the program run and do nothing ?
3. Does it give any error ?
4. Is it generating an empty batch file when you know there indeed are orphans ?
5. Anything other than above.
It does work and I don't get any error state.
that's the strange thing about it. It should be searching after files that are unnecessary.
And that's what's going wrong here. Yesterday I did have an asm with a few subassemblies.
And when I runned the macro it stated that the top level asm and few subasm where obsolete.
So results are fault in my case.
Thank goodness it does generate a batch file to move these files to a folder called obsolete.
So you cannot do any harm if you accindently wipe these files from the main directory.
But I saw it does makes some faillures lately. So I where thinking it isnt working anymore for ST6.
I have not enough time to dig any further at this time but I will keep you updated when it occurs again.
I'm currently working a lot with mirrored parts and asm's. Maybe it's a trail to follow ? I don't know.
Did you close all the files from the directory you are searching for orphans? If you have an assembly from the directory open in solid edge, the results may be incorrect!
That could be a solution.
I will try it later and if it works I will let you know.
But I'm sure there where other files opened, but I believe not files of the same project.
Anyway I will let you know if there's any change here.
Thank you for testing !
