This is one portion of what "Nesting software" does. I don't use DXF frequently enough to know th best answers. We still print hardcopy and program the punch or plasma manually.

Re: Flat Pattern in one step

It is not possible in SE so we have written a program for it

You can flatten directories or assemblies with it and sort it on a property e.g. Thickness

Re: Flat Pattern in one step

If you were running a PDM/PLM system I believe that you can build in the steps to export a dxf when a part/document is "released".

Re: Flat Pattern in one step

@RyanM, I know that Teamcenter will do that, at least can do that, at every save regardless of status.

@bshand Yes that is true. But you would only want to create the data at certain steps along your development workflow. And then make it only visible/accessible to certain people.

I wouldn't want this to occur at ever check-in / check out (CI/CO) point.

Only when the author feels the file is ready to be built/manufactured. I worked at acompany that had two workflows; 1) for the development cycle and 2) for production which required formal change process. Development cycle used alpha versions and released used numeric revisions.

Re: Flat Pattern in one step

Actually I'm not sure about dxf. Last place I worked saved pdfs at every save. I got mixed up. Doing that with dxfs makes no sense.

Re: Flat Pattern in one step

If DXF files are used to cut each part. Then there can be a huge need for it.

Hi,

this is a matter of modifying the batch macro.

I think, we did this a couple of years ago and so could save every flatvpattern of any psm fike within a directory structure .

Have a look into the code, setbthe filter to psm only and change the save line to saveflat pattern.

I found this via Google, sounds like it does what you're looking for:

http://community.plm.automation.siemens.com/t5/Solid-Edge-Forum/PSM-to-DXF-tool/m-p/309717#M12627

I tried it, it worked on a few, then crashed. Then my path finder display was messed up. I had to close SE, and restart fixed the issue. Seems like it's intended to work like what you're looking for, but might need a little work.
