Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

Hello guys,

I am trying to make an assmebly of chain links.

I added all parts manually and constrained them as pattern along curve wanst giving the expected result

However i am not able to constrain the last link as the axial aling wont work due to a small difference.

I tried using goal seek but it isnt working.

I have attached the assembly. The dimension i want to be 0 is Linear_1.

Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Thanks,

Balaji

I doubt whether 0 would be possible, but try 0.0000001

Re: Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

The whole point of making it 0 is because i want to axial align it.
even if it comes down to 0.0000001 it wont axial align right?

Re: Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

I see your point, but no it will not axial align.
Maybe 0 is not a permitted value, but how about placing a fixed point or line say 10mm away from the origin point of your dimenson and then dimensioning back to the point you are moving.

Thank you for your reply @beachcomber

I am not able to move it exactly 10mm away either not sure what i am doing wrong.

Tried  goal seek too but wont work for some reason.

Re: Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

It doesen't work in your case, because the logic won't recognize the difference of the +/- direction of your dimension. Put a dimension from one chain link to the other on from the same end. The dimension is 84.XX and the make a search with the target 85.00. I had to increase the time limit from 60s to 120s to make it work.

@ckunkel72 That was the kind of thing I was suggesting - it just needs a 'real' dimension to work to, so I would think any dimension to a fixed point will work (given time)

Thank you @ckunkel72 for your reply.

I tried as you said my dimension became 85.00XXX and after goal seek although it was solving unlike before

the value i am getting is still 85.XXXX or 84.999XX.

The closest value i got is 85.000046

Still cant get it to axial align.

After you solved it could you axial align it ?

Re: Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

The goal seek is an iterative process, so may require hundreds of calculations to solve.
I would suggest not worrying about the axial align and use different constraints.

Re: Goal seek wont make a Dimension 0 ?

yes @beachcomber i guess i will hhave to use other constraints.

After several attempts the best value i could get is 85.000009.
