The Help Index button is grayed out or disabled because the flyout tab for "Solid Edge Help" on the right side of the Solid Edge window is open even though in a collapsed state. When you close it, the Help button will be enabled as shown in this video:
Hope you find this useful.
[EDIT] : I checked this on a Windows 7 machine and mine is not a student edition.
The version of Solid Edge is ST6 though.
Thanks for the video. That was helpful!
The main reason I asked this question was when I go to Solid Edge help -> Over View of Solid Edge Simulation -> Using Integrated help and training, it shows that there are practise cases for Finite element analysis (See this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQozLelCaWw). However, I can't get to that window. First I thought that as my Help Index Icon is greyed out I can't access these practise cases. I am not sure how one can access those. May be it is the limitation of student version.
The window you were browsing in the video can be displayed by changing the setting in the Solid Edge Options dialog as in image below:
Take the Helpers tab on the left and in the right pane scroll down to the end where it says - Use my web browser to display help - although it uses only IE.
Click OK in the Option dialog box.
Again click the Solid Edge Help in the flyout and this time it should open the window you were perhaps looking for.
Tushar is right. I suggest to use "F1" hotkey. Solid Edge ST6 offers two help mode. One of them is local help (from your PC) and second is On-line help from internet. You can configure this on App button -> Solid Edge Options -> Helpers.
Thank you for patienlty answering the question. I changed the option under Helpers and tried, but can not find any Practise folder for Simulation. I think student version does not include that part of the help (I do see Simulation tab on the command bar and Simulation folder under SolidEdge ST6/Training).
The Practise folder for Simulation are not found in the full version too unless it is purchased additionaly. Mine is a demo license so I too am not sure about this.
You have to be on Simulation tab and hit "F1"! You will get the Simulation help (don't use on-line help) or you have to look for sesim.chm help file. (yyy:\Program Files\Solid Edge ST6\Program\ResDLLs\0009\)
NV123, you are correct, there indeed are Solid Edge practise files under \Solid Edge ST6\Training\simulation folder which are perhaps missing from the student edition. Without these the help instructions cannot be executed.
