It'd be nice if these sharpness settings actually "stuck". Going to the View tab and the Sharpness dropdown on every. single. document....gets old.

The question is WHY do you want to change it:

1. You work on really big parts (10M across) and the arcs look too faceted?

2. You work on stylized parts and you want the highlights to look more clear?

The answers are different, depending on what you are trying to do...

You can change the way arcs look on the View section of the Solid Edge options.  There are two settings... An Automatic-sharpen command that is off by default which I believe is dynamic and the Arc smoothness command which I believe is static.  I believe the automatic-sharpen option overrides the Arc smoothness option.

Thanks,

Thank you mjohnson for the reply and the screen shot. Changing the Arc Smoothness in the Solid Edge Options menu did the trick.

I agree with Chally72 that changing it in the View tab every time you get into a part is tedious.

Your answer agreed with mjohnson and worked. Thanks.

That question is so wrong on so many levels!

Why do I want to change the default sharpness of my parts? Because I paid for Solid Edge and that's the way I want it to work!

I had an 18" part with 1/2" ' holes, and the holes were 12 sided instead of round. I would change the sharpness from the default 2 to the smoother 5 and then the next time I got into that part, or any other part, it defaults back to 2. Why?

Fortunately, mjohnson's post on changing the Arc Smoothness in the Solid Edge Options menu fixed my problem.

Wow. Didn't mean to strike a nerve. I was only asking not because its not a good question, but because there are 3 different ways and each is better suited to different situations. I was just trying to find the best one for you.

I am glad Matt's suggestion helped you.
