How can I pattern parts that are different heights?

ScreenHunter 17.jpgI need some advice and I'm sure there are some lateral thinkers out there that can help?

I want to be able to create a truss, similar to the image above, that can be varied in length and as the length grows, the area is filled with more uprights. I have designed this in frames, but that doesn't give me the option of having varied heights. Suppression variables only work, I think, with assy features or relationships.

Can anyone think of a way of controlling the number of uprights as the length of the frame is changed?

Hi @Alan

this is possible using the frame tool in ASM.

I remembered a similar question one year ago with a helix pattern of frames.

And so I would use the same method.

  • First create YOur place holer part with a sketch and 3D sketch patterned and splitted
  • This placeholder part again can be used for the frames in ASM
  • See video

PS.:

don't worry about the extrusion body in my master part.

This seems to be a bug in ST10 with no MP

One year ago with ST9 and in my old part it also was possible to pattern a curve only even if there is no volume present.

So the small extrusion only is a turnarround to activate the pattern command!

Hi Wolfgang
Can you attach the parts/asms for this so I can see more clearly. I'm struggling to get the pattern to work.
Thanks
