How to copy/clone an existing part and draft?

Hi,

I got a part and draft.

How can I make a copy of both files? (so they are "attached")

I need to make a similar component, and would like to modify an existing one.

The "Save as" option in the menu, only make a copy of the part or draft, not both!

Regards,

Kenneth

With the new design manager of ST9 it is possible to do so.

Made a movie to show

Should be working but works fast if you use build in pdm with windows indexing

Re: How to copy/clone an existing part and draft?

How does that work? We would like to use such a system but have no idea how it works.

That is a bit much to explain over the internet, maybe your reseller can help. Otherwise old fashioned save as and edit links change source will work

1. Open part save as

2. Open draft save as

3. Check if you're in the right draft

4. Got to edit links and change source

5. Update

edit links is in the data management tab

Hi @Kenneth

look at the SEU2016 docs where several are talking about the BuildInDataManagment

Together with the F1 help should allow You to activate the indexing for Your SE files.

This IMHO is a good feature and a good idea but - as just today morning - suddenly the indexing doesn't work and must be restarted/setup again.

But if it works then it is quit good or fast.

Be carefully when searching for numbers - this seems to be a BIG issue!

Hi,

I suggest using DM workflow (what was suggested by @hawcad), here is a video:

What I do is open the top draft with design manager.

Select everything, then save as into a new directory

Notes:

If there are multiple drafts associated with sub parts, do a where used on those parts first so those drafts can be selected and copied.

If there are "standard parts" that you do not want to copy but update links so that both the originals and new point to the single part, then deselect those parts.

After the files are copied, then I go open the new top draft and start renaming things as needed for the copy.
