How to extrude a 2D DXF drawing

Creator
Creator

Hi all, I'm new to ST10 and 3D modelling in general, although I have used several 2D packages...

The question is, I imported a 2D drawing from a DXF file. Drawing consists of lines and arcs making a closed region.

Now I want to extrude that region and create a 10mm thick part with that shape.

However, when I try to extrude it, I get it to "rise", but then I get this error:

"Base features require closed profiles. This feature's profile has become an open profile."

What is missing ?

Your profile seems to be closed, but probably the entities are NOT connected.

You may check, whether the end points of each entity (line, arc) have a Connect relations (little square around it while displaying the profile relations).

No. When I do that, I only get little red dots.

So, how do I connect them ?

Hi @pjrebordao

when You use the 3D Create command from a draft file (where You imported the DWG, then You should find Your sketch in an e.g. part document as a sketch with a sketch region.

Tip: use a synchronous part therefroe.

Click onto the region and use the white arrow to pull the region to 10mm thickness

You can clean up teh sketch before in draft to automatically connect those entities correctly

as mentioned by @MartinBernhard

I tried your ideas but I think i have an underlying problem.

In my DXF, the lines and arcs are probably not connected (although they end and start at the same point), so I can't never grab the "whole" as a region.

So, how to connect them ?

Hi @pjrebordao

as said before, if the are in the correct size this should be now further problem when working synchronous, as long as the can build an closed region.

But or better and You also can repair/optimize those 2D geometry using the  "Relationship Assistant"

IMO often the simplest way, depending on the type of geometry, to make sure it's closed is to use the trim corner function.

I just opened a new st10 part. In sync I opened a simple square shape in a sketch, picked the region and it wouldn't extrude. I'm surprised. I could add a video but gotta go. Could this be what's happening to the novus OP?
