Importing X-Y coordinates from Excel spreadsheet

I am new to the world of CAD and I am looking for a simple, 2D package that will allow me to draw gears by importing the profiles of the gears as X-Y coordinates from an Excel spreadsheet. Will Solid Edge 2D Drafting allow me to do that?

Thanks,

budu

Hi there @budu,

No, I'm pretty sure you'd need the 3D version of Solid Edge for that, as the command used is "Curve By Table" and located on the "Surfacing" tab, and seems only to reside there.....and will do what you want, just NOT in the 2D environment.

Hi @budu

and to due the fact that the free 3D version of Solid Edge also doesn't allow macro to be used, it also will not help when saying, there are macros available to read x,y point sets to get the points or a curve out of it.

The ony You can do, is, that You can create a curve and You will be able to dimensoin all the necessary points.

Depending on the number of points (and my policy always is to keep them as less as possible) this migth be an passably effort.

Wolfgang

I was afraid of that, but it is what it is.
