Is it possible to create a bent piece and angle steel and have it behave like a sheet metal flat part where you can flatten it at the bend lines? I am wanting to create this piece in question:
sorry just seen that the bend feature in sync will change the flat original but keep the dimensions horizontally
This is not what You need for inspection.
So I will do it again but this time traditional.
Wait a few minutes
Yes ordered (traditional) would be great. I knew I could do it that way be manually creating flanges that mimic "L" Angle, but ultimately that is not the correct profile. I need proper profile like the attached one
and here is the same part but traditional.
And please excuse me to not be able understanding the dimensions correctly.
But if I add the 9 3/4 + 4 3/4 + 9 3/4 then I get 24 4/16 rather than 24 5/16
Same for 9 3/16 + 1 1/8 + 3 5/8 + 1 1/8 + 9 3/16
And this brought an error in the first part.
So now I changed it to 24 4/16 or 24 1/4 and did it so.
OK, using this profile will not be that easy due to it is no PSM like geometry with equal thickness everywhere.
You have to take away the round/fillets in the corner and at the edges
I never thaught to become something like taht made in Solid Edge but inspired by @SeanCresswell (thanks at this point) I played a little with Solid Edge PSM and the possibility to unbend sharp edged profiles.
For me it seems that SE will see such sharp edged geometry not as bend but as standard model geometry and therefore it does nearly exactly what we has needed very often in the past.
So I did a short test example with a 2 time bended square shape profil and Yes I will get the unbend length.
If necessary to show the fillets I can suppress the "Delete Round feature" very easily and so the final part does look as it should.
See attached video and thanks again to @SeanCresswell for this hint and
inspiration "to think a little from the side"
