I have many part with a part number and name (MS properties of title and Document number)

How can those properties be accessed my any program other than solid edge?

My goal is to get that data migrated into Solid Works.

Re: MS properties

you sort of answered your own Question...   since the properties are exposed in the OS...  you can copy them from there...

Any programmer could easily copy - paste info from SE file to the SW file...

The SE API has a specific lightweight type library that deals strictly with file properties and no installed version of SE needed.

I ASSuME the SW has the same...   and thus copy -paste...

MS does = microsoft.

But I have no idea how to get at them without using Solid Edge. Only Solid Edge tells me these are microsoft properties. I'm not sure I believe them.

What I am trying to avoid is manual copy and past of 20,000 part numbers and names one by one.

Hi @12GAGE

title, description etc, that are all those stnadard file properties should be usable from every win application due to they are standard to all files.

Document number, project name, revision, etc. those are the SOlid Edge specific file properties which by default only can be accessed by SE directly.

But You can use the BiDM and the windows index search service for make them visible to explorer etc. too.

And I think they should be usable by any API code for copy them or for read them out.

Proeprty manager should also allow You to have props of many files in one big table, copy pase multiple lines of props from one to another

Where do I look for the "Solid Edge Data Prep Utility"

I do know it's installed when SE is installed, but what's it called and where do I find it?

Nevermind...I found it uner the prgram menu. I was expecing to have to find some exicutable.
