Open auto cad file

Not applicable
I've loaded the solid edge 2D on my new computer, but it doesn't open a DWG file sent to me by a customer to look at for quoting. I want it to open up automatic and not have to save it somewhere else and then open it.

I don't understand the question or issue here.
Click on the application button in the upper left corner, round button.
Click on the Open command. You will see the Open file dialog.
Change the 'Files of type:' to 'AutoCAD documents (*.dwg)'.
You can specify options for opening the file using the Options button at the
bottom of the dialog.
Click on Open.
This will open the DWG file in Solid Edge 2D Drafting.

I think he's saying that SE is not associated with DWG files. He wants SE
to automatically launch whenever he double clicks a DWG file.

Re: Open auto cad file

Here is the problem.
A long time ago we did make the DXF and DWG file types associated with Solid
Edge Drafting.
We did the asignment on install of Solid Edge.
This was before 2D Drafting was available as a stand alone product.
However, we had many customers complain because they still needed these
filetypes associated to AutoCAD.
Therefore, we backed away from this.

So in other words it is not possible to do this anymore? I just installed SE st5 and now even my se viewer won't open my dxf files I have to open se and then open the dxf files from within the program...

We do not make the association for these file types when you install the software.
But you can make the association yourself. There is a post a few before this one that has a link to a topic that should help.
