Anyone know why under "copy as design body" "merge solid bodies" is checked and greyed out by default?
I can't find any settings which control this.
As it is I have to select "copy as construction body" which does yield multi construction bodies which I then toggle to design bodies.

You must not be bringing in native Solid Edge files for your Part Copy?
If you bring in native Solid Edge files, then "Merge Solid bodies" is enabled,
Both native and non-native give me the same dialog.
Whether I IPC our own SE asm or I open a stp as an assembly then IPC it.
I'm assuming you are doing IPC in Ordered... What happens if you IPC in Synch?
Actually it was in synch but I tried ordered and it does the same.
Edit:I prefer sync anyway usually but in these cases because I don't get a toggle to design feature. Which I wouldn't get if I could initially get multi-body design bodies in the first place.
I'm assuming that it's greyed out for a couple reasons:
A) The part you are copying is not a multi-bodied part
B) The part you are copying is not an assembly
I'm not sure if those are it, but that is my guess...
My bad, but I'm partially correct...
Just made a multi-bodied part then part copied it in a new part. That option is not greyed out and a check off list is made.
When it is not selected the part copy also copies its "Design Bodies", kinda neat...
