Hi,

in former version there was a Microstation interface available for reading there files.

But this was dropped a couple of versions ago besides the fact that only an older Microstation version was supported.

So IMHO there no longer is an option to read in such files directly.

Wolfgang

Microstation to Solid Edge Data Translator

Since ST9 I cannot open files from Microstation (.dgn)

Hardware/Software Configuration

Solid Edge ST9

Solution

Microstation .dgn is no longer a widely accepted format for mechanical drawings. In 2003 with Solid Edge Version 14, the Microstation translation capability moved to an “Extended Support" status where we no longer provided fixes or enhancements.

Solid Edge ST8 was the last release where the Microstation translator was delivered.

Not sure what the latest version of Microstation is or will do, but Microstation V8 will save as Microstation V7.

Can you get the people who supplied the file to do that for you ?

Try saving the .dgn file as a .dxf file, then open the .dxf in Solid Edge.

You will lose all the light weights though.

Note that ST10 will not import or export ANY version of dgn format.

Unfortunate really, because there are literally thousands of drawings in the UK rail industry in that format and we regularly have to convert them into solid edge for updates & modifications.

For the moment we have retained a workstation at ST7.

There is an ER to get the dgn support re-instated - ER 7664111.

@uk_dave - when I contacted our VAR to get ourselves added to the ER I was told that it is not possible to do it that way.

We have to submit a new ER and then that would reference the existing one - can you confirm that is correct.

@beachcomber the way the system is designed is every call into GTAC must have an IR number associated to an end customer sold-to id, even if for a duplicate incident.

So yes, in order for you to get yourselves added to the existing master ER, your Partner must submit an IR under your sold-to id.  That IR will then be attached to the master ER.  This process of attaching your ER to the master ER is how you actually get your company added to an existing ER.

Hopefully that helps to explain and clarify.
