Hello Everybody,

we have some problems with our search of SolidEdge.

I will discribe my problem.

If I' searching for a file name in solid edge example contains "12345678*", I Found the file 12345678.psm.

If I searching for contain "12345*", no file would be found.

On the teamwebsite i found it booth.

An other example is i search for the file "12345666*", the file would be found in the search of Insight.

If I'm watching on my teamwebsite and search the for this file, I found this file.

Other searching like contains "12344678" or "12344*" make no problems.

I Think there is is group of numbers that are not be read correct of the search in solid edge.

This Problem is on all our workstation. We work on Windows 7 and windows 10 withe ST9 MP7. This Problem is new we didn't have had this before.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @TR0815

this is a genereal problem , I have claimed over the last year, with searching for numbers.

The Solid Edge Fast Search - and this is what I have found out for me - is not using correct search "text" if numbers are involved.

Issues I have seen and I can reproduce:

  • leading zeros or zeros in general MUST be written exactly and in the correct count (0, 00, 000, etc.)
no wildcards will be used here
  • every search is a search with - in old fashion style: searchtext*
that means text  can be after the searchtext but not before
Example: You are searching for "mal" due to You know there are parts called "Male Part" and other called "Female Part"
The search for "mal" only detecs Male Part but not Female Part
  • Sometimes a search with *text*, espacially when searching for or in more fields will result in an empty list
while You knwo and can show that those files exist.
    Example:
    I search for title:~*mal* sedocnum:~*5*
This - to explain - searches for all files where the title should contain the text "mal" (female, male) and the document number should contain at least one number "5"
  • The search for title only will show You the correct list of files
  • The search for document number normally will show it
  • but the search for both can - not must - result in an empty list

So I only can agree with You, that the search functionallity MUST be improved, to work as well easy as reliable

regards
Wolfgang

@TR0815  You mentioned Insight so you're doing SharePoint searches not Windows searches?

Hi @bshand

Hi @bshand

so it definitefely is Insight what is in use

But I can see similar problems with BiDM only too.

Searching for numbers seems to be a problem.

Question now is only, is this a Solid Edge problem or a windows problem.

regards
Wolfgang

@TR0815, We use Insight as well but I haven't noticed this problem and I can't recreate it. I will say, and I have no idea if it will help you (probably won't as it's not logical according to the rules), but I always put asterisks on both side of the string: contains "*1234*".

This is somewhat off topic but at about 1 minute into your video you click on "all documents" and get a dropdown menu containing "listfilter". Then you get a dialog for filter parameters. I've never seen that, don't get that listfilter option and can't duplicate it here. Wish I could.
