At this moment we use a network drive as working directory for the development of a machine.
This means that all the neccesary files are in 1 folder and a number of engineers are constantly editing these files.
Sometimes it happens that an engineer has opened a read-only file because its in use by an other engineer. Is it possible to see wich engineer has opened the original file?
A bit like in Microsoft Excel, where you can see wich user opened the original file.
If the Read Only Assistant (click button in upper right of graphics screen) doesn't show you, then No.
From within Solid Edge, other than what Ken has mentioned, there is no way to tell who has a file lock.
If you can access the file server, the file server can tell you who has the lock. If direct file server access is not possible, there are plenty of third party tools available to allow you to query who has a lock on a file.
Or you could implement a PLM solution ;-)

That will fix all his problems won't it Dave
If you're including Insight in "PLM" then yes, you can see the user in the status indicator.
No PLM required for ST9 just use built in data manager. Utilize the file status and display it in pathfinder. It will report in use by etc.......
